Gianni Infantino has led FIFA since 2016 and has announced that he will seek re-election in 2027. Pressure on his leadership has increased after FIFA abandoned a proposal to sell a minority stake in a new commercial entity linked to FIFA’s major competitions, including the World Cup, following opposition from UEFA, CONCACAF and the AFC. The Football Association of Wales has formally withdrawn its support for his re-election, while reports indicate that other European associations are considering similar action.
