Privacy policy

Your opinion matters. Your identity does not.

VarVote collects only the information needed to operate an anonymous international ballot, protect basic vote integrity and understand site performance.

Information used for voting

Country

Cloudflare may derive a country code from the network request so the site can suggest a country and language. Participants can change the country before voting. VarVote stores the chosen country code with the ballot.

Anonymous voter token

The browser creates a random token. The server combines it with a private security value and stores only the resulting hash. This is used to reject straightforward repeat voting. VarVote does not require a name or email address for voting.

Technical information

Cloudflare processes standard network and security information needed to deliver and protect the site. Such processing may include IP addresses in Cloudflare systems. VarVote does not store the full IP address in its voting database.

Advertising and cookies

VarVote uses Google AdSense code. Once advertising is approved and enabled, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, local storage, device information and personal data for ad delivery, measurement, fraud prevention and, where consent permits, personalization.

Visitors in the EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland will be shown a consent message before advertising technologies requiring consent are used. Choices can be changed through the site’s privacy controls when advertising is active.

Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services at Google’s partner sites policy.

Purposes and retention

Voting data is used to calculate public aggregate results, prevent basic duplication and maintain the integrity of the service. Security and operational logs may be retained by infrastructure providers according to their own policies and configured retention periods. VarVote keeps ballot records while the vote remains active or while they are needed to document the published result.

Your choices and contact

You may use the site without creating an account. Because ballots are intentionally anonymous, VarVote may be unable to identify or delete a particular ballot without collecting additional identifying information. Questions about access, correction, deletion, advertising consent or this policy can be sent to contact@varvote.com.
