The Premier League is set to implement nine new laws this season, including World Cup rules and increased power for VAR. The changes aim to reduce time-wasting during matches, with referees able to trigger five-second countdowns for throw-ins and goalkeepers having to take goal kicks promptly. The VAR will also be able to review second yellow cards, set-piece goals for fouls committed prior to the kick, and correct acts of mistaken identity by the on-field referee. The changes will not apply to long throws, goal kicks where a player has been fouled, or set-piece goals where a foul was committed prior to the kick. The new laws are primarily aimed at reducing time-wasting and improving the flow of the game.
